Game fans had a great deal to be excited about at Sony’s PlayStation Experience last week. Psychonauts 2, for instance! A lot of the promising games which showed up on Sony’s stage are also making their way to the PC, however, among the biggest announcements–or at least one I saw that the most excitement around –wasn’t about a new game. But if you’re like me and have a whole group of excellent PS2 games onto a shelf or in a box at the back of your closet, you may actually emulate those games on your PC with better graphics and more options than you can on a PS4. It’s completely free, and it is really pretty straightforward.
Let me present you to PCSX2.
PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 emulator project that’s been in development for at least a decade. It’s compatible with about 95 percent of their PS2’s 2400+ game catalog. Sony’s new PS4 emulation can operate those previous games at 1080p, however on a nice gaming PC it is possible to render them even higher resolutions such as 4K, even downsampling them into the resolution of your screen for a much better, clearer image. Even an aging or budget gaming rig needs to be in a position to deal with 1080p emulation for most games, no problem.Join Us play station 2 isos website
If you are an old hand at PC emulation, you are likely as familiar with PS2 emulator PCSX2 because you are with GameCube/Wii emulator Dolphin. Both are free and legal–none of this code at the emulators themselves goes to Sony or Nintendo–also have improved enormously over years of growth, because of ardent communities. The excellent thing about PCSX2, even though, and where it actually comes from Dolphin, is that you could easily play with your older copies of PlayStation 2 games simply by sticking the disks on your PC.
Assuming you still have a DVD drive (in case you don’t, find a friend who can ), you can plop a PS2 disk into the drive and emulate it straight from the disk. I would recommend ripping it into an ISO using a free app like ImgBurn so that you do not have to think about disk read rates or swapping disks if you need to perform a new game.
Seriously, it is not that hard
Download PCSX2 here and follow a setup guide to set it up. The official PCSX2 guide is a excellent resource, but filled with an intimidating quantity of info you don’t really have to learn whether you’re only out to play games. Mostly all you need to know to get started is the way to configure the images settings along with a gamepad.
Here’s a fantastic guide that lays out the fundamentals of configuring PCSX2 and its own images settings without depriving you with advice. That hasn’t stopped the BIOS documents from being widely distributed online, but it does imply the only free-and-clear legal approach to acquire the necessary BIOS files would be to dump them from your own PS2. PCSX2 supplies a forum and manual for how to ditch your BIOS.
Ironically, this all takes a little more work than simply paying $15 into re-buy a PS2 game in your PS4, which you’ll inevitably be asked to re-buy about the PlayStation 6 or 5. But that is the nature of the PC platform. With a little work, you can play virtually anything.
With a bit more work, you can make the games much better than they were on the original hardware. It becomes a part of the pleasure: you can typically get a game to run without too much problem, but which makes it look as great as it can, and operate as smoothly as you can, is a satisfying vetting procedure. Any problem you encounter you can probably solve a simple Google search. That’s the wonderful part thing concerning emulation communities: they are filled with individuals devoted to producing these games operate.
With a little time placed into PCSX2, you can leave the picture at 2x, 3x, 4x its original resolution (or higher!) , play with a PS2 game with a DualShock or a Xbox controller, listen to unlimited virtual memory card use save states, borrow save files from other players, then use hacks to conduct games in widescreen. And you can take some fairly awesome screenshots.

I will leave you with a few of my own: screenshots I took Final Fantasy XII while enjoying the game before this season. What was fuzzy at 480i seems pretty damn amazing at 4K.
